About

Advances in the Population Ecology of Stream Salmonids VII is the seventh meeting in a long-running international conference series held every four years. The conference creates a focused forum for scientists, resource managers, conservation practitioners and other professionals working on stream salmonids and freshwater ecosystems.
The Évora meeting will provide an opportunity to present new research, compare approaches across regions, discuss management challenges and strengthen international collaboration. Particular attention will be given to how salmonid populations and their habitats are responding to rapid environmental change, and to the science needed to support effective conservation and sustainable management.
The conference will take place in Évora, Portugal, from 17 to 21 May 2027 and will be hosted by the University of Évora.
Conference objectives
- Share recent scientific advances in the population ecology of stream salmonids.
- Connect research findings with conservation, restoration and management practice.
- Promote discussion across disciplines, species, river systems and geographic regions.
- Support collaboration among established researchers, early-career scientists, managers and practitioners.
- Identify knowledge gaps and future priorities for salmonid science and conservation.
Conference themes

Salmonid Ecology in a Changing World
Population responses to climate change, altered flow regimes, warming waters, biological invasions, land-use change and other interacting pressures.

Habitat Restoration for Salmonid Species
Evidence, methods and monitoring approaches for restoring river processes, connectivity, habitat quality and resilient salmonid populations.

Salmonid Genetics
Population structure, adaptation, genomic tools, connectivity, conservation genetics and the management implications of genetic diversity.

Restocking & Aquaculture
Science and practice related to hatchery programs, aquaculture interactions, risks, benefits and responsible management.
Contributions addressing other relevant topics in salmonid science, conservation and management are also welcome and will be considered by the Scientific Committee.
